Playing in the Tree Sap

When I was in 1st grade, there were giant pine trees behind the playground, and a tree stump. On these trees were sap. I remember my friends and I used to love to play in the tree sap. We take sticks and try to scrape off all the tree sap off the trees and the tree stump. I used to call it "honey," because it looked like honey. But it stuck like glue. It was so hard to get off your fingers.

The Honeysuckle Bush

When I was in 1st Grade, there was a honeysuckle bush by the playground. My teachers helper told me that I could pull the bottom off and get a drop of honey from it. So all during the spring, I was down there, picking honeysuckles, and drinking the drop of "honey" that came from the bottom of it. I loved it, it was fun. Unfortunately, when 2nd grade came along, my teachers helper that year told me I couldn't go eat the honeysuckle plants anymore T_T. So honeysuckles were a big part of my childhood.

The Water Cooler

My Second grade classroom was inside a portable, so there were no drinking fountains in the room. So our teacher(s) [we had 2 teachers in second grade because one of my teachers took a part time job as the vice principal for the year, so we had one teacher on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays, and another one on Tuesday and Thursdays] put a water cooler in our classroom. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. The best part is when the water cooler dispensed enough water, the water cooler would make bubbles and make a really cool noise. It sounded like "bllpphh bllpphh." I remember my friends and I would always get excited when we were the one to get the "bllpphh bllpphh" noise!

The Caterpillars in the Pine Trees

The pine trees where my friends and I would go caterpillar hunting.

When I was in 1st Grade, my friends and I would love to go to the pine trees in the springtime and look for caterpillars. There were tiny green caterpillars in the pine trees. It was a lot of fun!

*Update* I did some reaserch and I think what we found were European Sawfly Larve. Oh well, they were still fun to find!

Rancho Romero... The Land of Memories!

Rancho Romero (circa around 2002ish)

Ah Rancho Romero. My old elementary school. I have so many countless, wonderful memories of this place. I attended this school for 5 years (1999-2004), from 1st to 5th grade. I would do anything to go back to those 5 years of total bliss, where nothing mattered, and the greatest words spoken by your teacher was "no homework on fridays." Everyone was nice to each other, and we all got along. Unfortunately, when we all go off to middle school, that changes. If only the world was more like elementary school....

Above is a picture of Rancho Romero as I remember it. It has been 5 years since I left Rancho Romero, and it looks NOTHING like it did 5 years ago. It's amazing how much can change in 5 years.

Below is Rancho Romero now:

Many of the blog post here will take place at Rancho Romero, just so you know. This post is just an introduction to some of the post about Rancho.
